Many cruise lines do
not publish their smoking policy on their web sites. Every
effort is made to get a direct quote from the cruise lines and
publish it here. Alternative sources are used when necessary and are
identified and linked.
Carnival Cruise
Lines
Guest acknowledges that Carnival’s vessels contain non-smoking
sections. Guest agrees to refrain from smoking in those sections and
agrees that Carnival has the right to disembark the Guest for
failure to observe Carnival’s non-smoking policy.
[From CruiseCritic.com]
Carnival is one of the world's most innovative cruise lines, and
lists among its firsts that it was the only major cruise line to
build and operate a completely smoke-free cruise ship, Paradise.
After nearly six years of butt-free sailings, the ship, now deployed
in California, has gone to a "limited-smoking" policy where guests
can light up in the casino and just a couple of bars and lounges,
but not in cabins nor most public spaces, even outside -- except for midship-only on the Lido deck.]
Celebrity Cruises
Cigarette Smoking is permitted:
In staterooms.
In designated areas on the port (left) side of most public areas
(Lounges, Bars, Decks).
Cigarette Smoking is not permitted:
In the Celebrity Theater.
In the Cinema.
In the Conference Center.
In the Dining Room.
In the Elevators.
On the starboard (right) side of the ship, either indoors or
outdoors.
Pipe and Cigar Smoking:
Pipe and cigar smoking is only allowed in specifically designated
areas on outer decks of the vessel.
Please check with the Guest Relations Desk for these specific
venues.
Please note that at no time is cigar and pipe smoking permitted in
staterooms/suites or on their verandas.
Costa Cruises
[From
CruiseMates.com] There is no smoking in the main dining rooms
and show lounges onboard all eight vessels with designated smoking
areas in other lounges, specialty restaurants and casual dining
areas.

most bars and lounges (except The Bistro, inside the Lido Café, the
Crystal Dining Room, Prego, Jade Garden, Silk Road and The Sushi Bar
restaurants and the Galaxy Lounge, which are entirely smoke-free).
Pipes and cigars are permitted only in the Connoisseur Club, and on
the "open decks," except all areas of Lido Deck (deck 11 on Crystal
Symphony, and deck 12 on Crystal Serenity). Pipes and cigars may not
be smoked in guest penthouses, staterooms, on verandahs or in

smoking pipes or cigars in other enclosed public areas of the ship.
Aboard QM2, each public room and bar have designated smoking

majority of their guests, there are designated smoking areas on the
ships. The ships do not have "nonsmoking" staterooms, however all
rooms are thoroughly cleaned after every cruise to assure the
comfort of our guests. Cigar and pipe smoking are only permitted on
the outside public decks.
Norwegian Cruise
Lines
Can you accommodate non-smokers?
Absolutely. All our dining rooms are designated non-smoking. We
offer non-smoking staterooms, and all our public areas have smoking
and non-smoking sections.
Oceania Cruises
As the safety and security of our guests, staff and ship is our
primary concern, we would like to take a moment to familiarize you
with Oceania Cruises’ Smoking Policy and kindly request your
cooperation in enforcing it.
For the safety of all guests and staff onboard, Designated Smoking
Areas are available on Deck 9, the forward starboard corner of the
Pool Deck, and Deck 10, in the aft, port corner of Horizons. These
areas are comfortably furnished and conveniently located near food
and beverage service areas.
Smoking is expressly forbidden in all Staterooms and Suites, on
verandas or in any areas of the ship other than officially
Designated Smoking Areas. Smoking in your stateroom or suite or on
your veranda represents a serious fire and safety hazard to you,
your fellow guests and the ship’s staff. Guests choosing to
disregard this policy will be disembarked at the next port of call
and may also be subject to monetary penalties that will be imposed
to cover the costs associated with any damage to and the required
cleaning of furnishings, verandas and surrounding deck and
accommodation areas.
All areas other than those specified as Designated Smoking Areas
will remain smoke-free. This includes all guest suites and
staterooms, verandas, restaurants, public areas, the Casino, and all
other areas of the ship. Cigar and Pipe smoking is only permitted on
the starboard forward section of the outdoor Pool Deck.
Princess Cruise Lines
Smoking in public has become a sensitive issue. We have responded to
the wishes of our passengers by creating both smoking and
non-smoking areas on Princess ships.
Certain sections of
the ship are designated as "Non Smoking" and notices are posted
accordingly. Smoking is not permitted in any dining or food service
areas, or in the show lounges and theatres. For everyone's comfort,
we ask you not to smoke in these areas. Also, as a courtesy to your
fellow passengers, please refrain from smoking pipes and cigars in
public rooms.
Smoking is
permitted in staterooms and designated areas.
Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines

and enjoyment of our guests, smoking is prohibited onboard most
areas of our ships. However, to provide an onboard environment that
also satisfies smokers, we have special designated smoking areas in
many of our lounges and on all open-air decks. On Alaska Cruisetours,
smoking is not permitted on motorcoaches or inside traincars. On

Effective
January 2008, a new smoking policy will designate all staterooms and one lounge
as non-smoking areas on every ship in our fleet.*
Feedback from guests and results from online polls fueled the new policy, which
reflects a trend toward healthier lifestyles overall. And who couldn't get
onboard with that?
**
Vitality™ Wellness Program will be fleet-wide by March 2008.
* Smoking will be allowed on balconies on all ships.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises
While we will always give smokers
a warm welcome on our ships, we also recognize the need to restrict
where smoking is permitted so as not to cause discomfort to, or
provide a health or safety hazard for, the majority of our guests
who do not smoke.
Cigarette smoking is
not permitted in any enclosed dining areas, whether
it be the ships' main dining rooms or the alternate dining venues.
Cigarette smoking is only permitted in designated areas of the
outdoor Pool Grills. Other than open deck areas, the following are
the only public rooms or areas where cigarette smoking is now
permitted:

areas is considered an extreme fire hazard and is not permitted.
Cigar smoking is only permitted in the Connoisseur Club aboard
Seven Seas Voyager, Mariner and Navigator, and in the
designated area of the Pool Bar area aboard all four vessels.
Update
as of July 5, 2007:
In light of continuing legislative changes in
smoking policies around the world as well as the comfort, health and
safety of our guests and crew, both in terms of the proven dangers
of second hand smoke and the fire hazard that smoking presents,
Regent Seven Seas Cruises will be changing our policy of smoking in
staterooms, suites and on private balconies. Not only does smoking
present a fire hazard, but it is also an inconvenience to other
guests as the smoke, or its odor, invades surrounding suites,
balconies and public areas, creating discomfort for the guests in
these areas. Smoking will therefore be prohibited in all
staterooms, suites and balconies fleet-wide.
This change will
take effect on the following dates:
Seven Seas Voyager: December 21, 2007
Seven Seas Mariner: December 21, 2007
Seven Seas Navigator: December 27, 2007
Paul Gauguin: December 29, 2007
Explorer II: January 21 and February 1, 2008
(The Regent smoking policy applies to full-ship charters of
Explorer II.)
Failure to comply
with this ban will result in guests being asked to leave the ship at
their expense, without refund or credit for the unused portion of
their cruise.
