Many cruise lines do
not publish their smoking policy on their web sites. Every
effort is made to get a direct quote from the cruise lines and
publish it here. Alternative sources are used when necessary and are
identified and linked.
Carnival Cruise

casino/casino bar areas, and designated exterior open deck areas (as

[From CruiseCritic.com]
Carnival is one of the world's most innovative cruise lines, and
lists among its firsts that it was the only major cruise line to
build and operate a completely smoke-free cruise ship, Paradise.
After nearly six years of butt-free sailings, the ship, now deployed
in California, has gone to a "limited-smoking" policy where guests
can light up in the casino and just a couple of bars and lounges,
but not in cabins nor most public spaces, even outside -- except for midship-only on the Lido deck.]

Pipes and cigars are permitted only in the Connoisseur Club, and on
the "open decks," except all areas of Lido Deck (deck 11 on Crystal

non-smoking areas, which have been created for the comfort and
enjoyment of everyone on board.

Oceania Cruises
As the safety and security of our guests, staff and ship is our
primary concern, we would like to take a moment to familiarize you
with Oceania Cruises’ Smoking Policy and kindly request your
cooperation in enforcing it.
For the safety of all guests and staff onboard, Designated Smoking
Areas are available on Deck 9, the forward starboard corner of the
Pool Deck, and Deck 10, in the aft, port corner of Horizons. These
areas are comfortably furnished and conveniently located near food
and beverage service areas.
Smoking is expressly forbidden in all Staterooms and Suites, on
verandas or in any areas of the ship other than officially
Designated Smoking Areas. Smoking in your stateroom or suite or on
your veranda represents a serious fire and safety hazard to you,
your fellow guests and the ship’s staff. Guests choosing to
disregard this policy will be disembarked at the next port of call
and may also be subject to monetary penalties that will be imposed
to cover the costs associated with any damage to and the required
cleaning of furnishings, verandas and surrounding deck and
accommodation areas.
All areas other than those specified as Designated Smoking Areas
will remain smoke-free. This includes all guest suites and
staterooms, verandas, restaurants, public areas, the Casino, and all
other areas of the ship. Cigar and Pipe smoking is only permitted on
the starboard forward section of the outdoor Pool Deck.
Princess Cruise Lines
Effective January 15, 2011, smoking will no longer be allowed
in passenger staterooms or balconies onboard the Princess fleet.
Keeping the comfort of
our passengers a priority, and in consideration of consumer studies
which show smokers are a small minority of passengers, Princess has
implemented the following smoking policy:
Designated Smoking Area
Clearly marked "Designated Smoking Areas" are available onboard and
include a sufficient number of ashtrays that are emptied regularly.
Generally, these areas include cigar lounges, a section of the
nightclub and casino, as well as a portion of the open decks. As a
safety precaution, passengers are reminded to properly dispose of
cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco, which are never to be thrown
overboard as this may be sucked back into the ship and cause fires.
Stateroom Smoking Policy Update
For all voyages departing after January 15th, 2012, Princess Cruises
will prohibit smoking in passenger staterooms and balconies. This
policy change reflects the preferences of a vast majority of our
passengers who value having their primary living space (both
stateroom and balcony) smoke-free. As balconies are a hallmark of
Princess Cruises, we believe it is important to keep this peaceful
space clear of smoke. Violations to this policy will result in a
$250 fine for each occurrence, which will be charged to the
passenger’s stateroom account. Keeping with the global trend toward
more restrictive smoking policies and honoring the wishes of our
passengers, we feel this change will enhance our onboard
experience and do more to help our passengers escape completely.
Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines
For the comfort
and enjoyment of our guests, smoking is prohibited onboard most
areas of our ships. However, to provide an onboard environment that
also satisfies smokers, we have special designated smoking areas in
many of our lounges and on all open-air decks. On Alaska Cruisetours,
smoking is not permitted on motorcoaches or inside traincars. On
Canadian Rockies Cruisetours, smoking is not permitted on
motorcoaches or anywhere on the traincars.

Seabourn Cruise Lines

refrain from smoking:
- In the
Restaurant, Veranda Café and Restaurant “2” (inside and outside)
- In the main show
Lounge during performances and lectures.

side (right side facing forward) in the Observation Lounge, The
Club and the main show lounge.
- In the ship’s

In addition, we ask
that guests refrain from smoking pipes and cigars anywhere inside

Sky Bar is set aside for this pastime.
Regent Seven Seas Cruises
While we will always give smokers
a warm welcome on our ships, we also recognize the need to restrict
where smoking is permitted so as not to cause discomfort to, or
provide a health or safety hazard for, the majority of our guests
who do not smoke.
Cigarette smoking is
not permitted in any enclosed dining areas, whether
it be the ships' main dining rooms or the alternate dining venues.
Cigarette smoking is only permitted in designated areas of the
outdoor Pool Grills. Other than open deck areas, the following are
the only public rooms or areas where cigarette smoking is now
permitted:
Seven Seas
Voyager: Connoisseur Club, Casino, Voyager Lounge (designated
area), Horizon Lounge (outside area only), Pool Bar
Seven Seas Mariner: Connoisseur Club, Casino, Horizon
Lounge (outside area only), Stars Nightclub (designated area), Pool
Bar
Seven Seas Navigator: Connoisseur Club, Casino, Stars
Lounge (designated area), Galileo's (outside area only), Pool Bar
Paul Gauguin: La Palette (outside area only), Le Grill
(designated area), Pool Bar
Explorer II: Smoking Lounge on Bridge Deck
Pipe smoking is
only permitted in the Connoisseur Club aboard Seven Seas
Voyager, Mariner and Navigator. Pipe smoking in open deck
areas is considered an extreme fire hazard and is not permitted.
Cigar smoking is only permitted in the Connoisseur Club aboard
Seven Seas Voyager, Mariner and Navigator, and in the
designated area of the Pool Bar area aboard all four vessels.
Update
as of July 5, 2007:
In light of continuing legislative changes in
smoking policies around the world as well as the comfort, health and
safety of our guests and crew, both in terms of the proven dangers
of second hand smoke and the fire hazard that smoking presents,
Regent Seven Seas Cruises will be changing our policy of smoking in
staterooms, suites and on private balconies. Not only does smoking
present a fire hazard, but it is also an inconvenience to other
guests as the smoke, or its odor, invades surrounding suites,
balconies and public areas, creating discomfort for the guests in
these areas. Smoking will therefore be prohibited in all
staterooms, suites and balconies fleet-wide.
This change will
take effect on the following dates:
Seven Seas Voyager: December 21, 2007
Seven Seas Mariner: December 21, 2007
Seven Seas Navigator: December 27, 2007
Paul Gauguin: December 29, 2007
Explorer II: January 21 and February 1, 2008
(The Regent smoking policy applies to full-ship charters of
Explorer II.)
Failure to comply
with this ban will result in guests being asked to leave the ship at
their expense, without refund or credit for the unused portion of
their cruise.
